words

I am a sucker for words
they have the power to undo me
to totally smite me
to put me off balance
at any given moment.

an unexpected word can make my day
putting an indelible smile on my face
or torment me for hours
banning all thoughts from my mind

a line from a song
can fill my head exclusively
and haunt me for days and nights
really - I wake up and BANG
there it is again
insistently pulling at my heart strings
establishing the theme for yet another day

and so even long wished for, tender & dreamlike words
can develop a hurting power
by becoming echoes
and still
I would not want to miss any of them -
agents of pain & pleasure alike.
