The speed of things often depends on how you look at them. For instance, if I go outside on a night like tonight and look up at a star - let's say alpha Cassiopeia, just to be specific - I can't detect much movement. It appears to just hang there in the northern sky. Bright, pretty and still. But If I get out my telescope to take a look, things speed up. As soon as I get the star centered and in focus, the Queen moves! I struggle a bit to keep up. The coy star speeds away as I try to look at her carefully. Perhaps space is indifferent in some sense, but it is also responsive in a way and can be quite shy.
I'm going to have to get me one of them moleskin thingamabobs. That and a resealable container for wheat paste.
